Tipping Trailers and Truck Decks

TMC designs and manufactures a comprehensive range of tipping trailers and truck bodies, including pull trailers, semi tipulators, simple trailers, and truck decks. Engineered to handle the toughest bulk transport environments, TMC tippers deliver strength, reliability, and efficiency for operators moving aggregates, demolition waste, grain, and agricultural products.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum length of a unit and what is the maximum weight I can carry?

Under standard VDAM (Vehicle Dimensions and Mass) Rule limits:

  • Truck and full trailer: up to 20.0 m long
  • Truck and semi-trailer: up to 19.0 m long

Under an HPMV permit (High Productivity Motor Vehicle):

  • Truck and full trailers can be approved up to 23.0 m long, tractor units and semi-trailers can be approved up to 19.45m long.
  • Maximum gross combination mass (GCM) can increase from the standard 44 T to 50 T or more, depending on axle configuration and the approved HPMV route.

TMC designs every unit to meet NZTA HPMV dimensional and mass standards, optimising chassis geometry, axle spacing, and tare weight to deliver the highest legal payload capacity while staying fully compliant.

TMC uses high-tensile steel (GR1200) for all tipper bodies because it provides the best balance of strength, durability, and repairability for New Zealand conditions.

Key advantages over aluminium:
Superior strength and impact resistance — handles rock, demolition waste, and heavy aggregates without cracking or denting.
Higher wear life — steel bins withstand abrasion from coarse material (AP40, rock, scrap, etc.) far better than aluminium.
Easier repair — damaged steel sections can be cut, welded, and replaced locally; aluminium repairs often require full panel replacement.
Better stability when tipping — higher structural stiffness prevents flexing or distortion under load.
Cost-effective — lower material and fabrication cost than heavy-duty aluminium bodies.

While aluminium bins are lighter, the weight saving is marginal once the body is reinforced for strength, and they’re generally less suited to heavy or abrasive loads common in NZ bulk haulage.
