Refuse / Hook Bin Trailers

TMC are New Zealand’s refuse trailer specialists, manufacturing a full range of custom-built solutions for efficient waste transfer and bin handling.
Our lineup includes pull trailers, B-train refuse transfer trailers, and truck-mounted hook units, all designed to integrate seamlessly with existing fleet bin systems and hook-lift equipment.

Key Features

Custom-Built for Every Fleet
Each TMC refuse trailer and hook unit is purpose-built to match your bin system, hook-lift geometry, and operational setup. Designed for compatibility with all major waste operators and council fleets where bin dimensions and hook heights vary.

Flexible Configurations
Available as pull trailers, B-train refuse transfer trailers, or truck-mounted hook units. Options include fixed transfer decks for multi-bin transport or tipping frames for discharge at transfer stations.

Strong, Low-Maintenance Chassis
High-tensile steel construction with RHS longitudinal runners to guide bins straight during loading. The folded top lip and rear roller recess ensure bins seat securely and evenly on the chassis.

Secure Bin Retention Systems
Bins are held by four heavy-duty locking pins or chain hooks depending on customer preference. Manual or pneumatic locking pins available

Operational Efficiency
Trailers feature sliding drawbars to reduce the gap between truck and trailer for efficient loading. Optional swing-arm tarp system mounts at the front of the trailer and folds away for bin changes.

Tipping Capability
Tipping models achieve 45–50° tip angles, providing fast and complete unloading of waste or recyclables. Both tipping and non-tipping chassis options are available depending on fleet application.

Customisation Options

Chassis & Deck Configurations
Fixed transfer chassis for continuous bin shuttles between depots or transfer stations. Tipping chassis for efficient unloading of waste or recyclables.

Single or double-bin layouts
Sliding drawbar systems to minimise gap between truck and trailer for easier bin loading. B-train configurations available for high-volume waste transfer operations.

Bin Retention & Locking Systems
Pneumatic locking pins for faster loading and unloading of bins. Pin engagement indicator arms visible from the truck cab for operator confirmation. Chain-down systems as an alternative to pin locks for fleets with mixed bin types.

Hydraulic & Control Options
Hydraulic tipping systems with single-acting hoists and in-cab controls. Pneumatic interlocks to prevent accidental pin engagement during bin loading.

Covers & Protection Systems
Swing-arm tarp frames mounted at the front of the trailer, pivot clear for loading.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can TMC refuse trailers handle different bin types and hook systems?

Yes. Every TMC refuse trailer is custom-built to match your fleet’s bin dimensions and hook-lift geometry. We build around your existing hook truck setup, including different bin heights, locking systems, and roller designs, ensuring a seamless transfer between truck and trailer.

Fixed-deck trailers are used for bin-to-bin transfer between depots or landfill, offering lower deck height and reduced tare. Tipping trailers allow direct discharge of waste at transfer stations.

Bins are retained using four locking pins or chain-down hooks depending on your system, multiple sets of locking pins can be fitted if required. Locking pins can be manual or pneumatic and feature an indicator arm visible from the cab confirming that locks are engaged.

Single-bin 5-axle trailer: ~27 T (long bin) / ~22 T (short bin) under HPMV.
Double-bin 5-axle trailer: up to 26 T combined.
4-axle tipping trailer: ~21 T payload.

Actual payloads vary with bin size, axle group spacing, and route permits. Most operate under HPMV approval.

Absolutely. We supply swing-arm tarp frames that pivot clear during loading. Covers can be added to new builds or retrofitted to existing trailers.
