TMC designs and manufactures custom-built semi-trailers for concrete panel transport, purpose-engineered for strength, stability, and low deck height.
Each unit is designed from the ground up to safely carry precast concrete wall panels. Featuring a low centre well and removable panel support frames, TMC panel trailers deliver unmatched versatility, the frames can be removed to convert the unit into a step-deck semi for general freight, container, or light vehicle transport.
Purpose-Built for Precast Transport
Designed specifically for concrete panel cartage, with a low-centre well (under 600 mm) for stability and a lower centre of gravity during transport.
Custom-Built for Every Operation
No standard models, each trailer is individually engineered to match your panel dimensions, loading method, and handling equipment. Available as regular step-deck or trombone-extending styles for longer panel work.
Removable Panel Support Frames
Fixed-angle frames allowing inside/outside carrying and adjustable-angle frames, for inside-only carrying, adjustable to centre panel. Both hook securely under the chassis beam flange and lock with screw-type retainers.
Convertible Deck Design
When the panel frames are removed, the trailer can be used as a step-deck semi for general freight, containers, or small-to-medium vehicles, providing year-round flexibility.
Heavy-Duty Construction
Built from high-tensile steel for strength and low tare weight. Chain-drive landing legs maintain a large, uninterrupted panel well area for maximum carrying capacity.
Chassis & Frame Configurations
Fixed chassis or trombone extending models with multiple locked extension positions.
Panel Support Frames
Choice of fixed-angle or adjustable-angle support frames. Both designs hook under the beam flange and are secured with screw-type locks. Frames are fully removable, allowing conversion to a general-purpose step-deck trailer when not carrying panels.
Decking & Load Surface Options
Deck materials: plain or chequer steel, 50 mm treated pine, or 32 mm hardwood inside the panel well. Lower deck trestles flush with the top deck for additional support when carrying non-panel freight. Optional trough covers to convert the panel well into a flatdeck for general cartage. ISO locks and upright ISO stanchions (with onboard storage) for container compatibility.
Load Handling & Transport Accessories
Headboards for forward protection and load separation. Chain bins, toolboxes, and in-deck chain trays for secure storage. Spare wheel carrier for on-road service readiness.
Vehicle Transport Compatibility
Rear beaver tail and removable ramps for loading small vehicles or machinery. Top deck ramps for light vehicle transport and dual-purpose operation.
Safety Options
Oversize and overwidth signage with LED lighting kits for compliant long-load transport.
Panels must be individually tied down or braced using rated straps or chains attached to the trailer chassis. Panel support frames are rated load supports only, not restraints.
Under NZTA’s Vehicle Dimensions and Mass (VDAM) Rule, the maximum legal transport height is 4.3 metres. Any load taller than this is classed as overdimension and requires a permit from Waka Kotahi (NZTA). Depending on total height, route, and area, pilot vehicles or restricted travel hours may also apply.
A standard 4-axle semi-trailer operating under normal VDAM limits can gross around 44 tonnes when paired with an 8×4 tractor unit, typically giving a payload of 24–26 T, depending on tare weight and axle spacing.
Operators moving heavier concrete panels or multiple sections can apply for an Overweight Permit.
When permitted under a Vehicle Axle Index TMC panel semi-trailers can increase the 4-axle group limit from 20,000 kg up to 29,760–30,240 kg, depending on axle spacing and suspension configuration.
TMC’s design team can assist with the permit application process and provide the engineering documentation required for NZTA approval.
If the load exceeds 4.3 m height or 2.55 m width, it’s classed as Overdimension, and you’ll likely need a Category 1 or 2 permit under NZTA Factsheet 53.
